2N3055, look fantastic. can do very well as a phototransistor, like this schematics. This Power transistor should be light sensitif and it can do with cutting of up side transistor. the sensitif area which more wide can do like the new phototransisitor and do very sensitif.

1 Watt 2.3 GHz RF Amplifier Using a MRF2001
Simplicity and repeatabilty are feature in this 1-watt
S-Band amplifier design. The desing uses an MRF2001 transfer as a common base. Class C amplifier The amplifier deliver 1-watt output wi:r 8 dB minimum gain at 24 V. and Is tunable tram 225 to 235 GHz, Applications include microwave communications eqwpm.nt and other systems requiring medium power, narrow band amplification

Infra/radio remote control transmitter/receiver with PIC
This is a general purpose remote control project with using programmable PIC microcontrollers. Schematics are shown for using infrared (RF) or radio (RF) media. If you are not familiar with microcontroller programming, you can use fixed encoder and decoder integrated circuits instead. Well-known such IC-s are Holtek HT-12D, HT-12E and Motorola MC145026, MC145027, MC145028.
